Repost ordered by Whoops
Finally. Finally I got to see Dave & Tim, finally there was a DM-related show that I did not have to get on a plane for, finally it's MY turn to bore everyone with a song-by-song 'review' (I don't pretend to know anything about music). Anyway, Dave & Tim in Paris with 800 of their closest friends.
The crowd
I think 1/3 American, 1/3 French, 1/3 other nationalities. The French sure love to clap during a show. The Portugese and Italians sure love to scream inappropriate remarks MID-SONG. The Americans behaved very well for the most part. Except for the screaming girl behind us who Sarah told off before anyone would end up killing her. Throughout the show, I tried really hard not to get annoyed by yelling, screaming, hysterical people. And failed a couple of times. But I think it wasn't really bad - of course, I don't have anything to compare.
Dave speaks a little French, but kept apologizing for not speaking enough French throughout the show. He talked a lot of gibberish (which was insanely amusing according to the screaming American girl behind us - "Dave, look at me, I'm laughing!!") . He did a bit about the state of American media which was hilarious for real.
Bartender
Great song to start with. Everybody screams their head off when Dave starts wailing. Luckily, people started to settle down for the most part after they got it out of their system during this song.
Crush
I need Stefan on this song. This version though is more intimate and sweet. Once I stop searching for the sexual longing I'm used to in this song, I quite enjoy it.
So Damn Lucky
It hits me: I'm at a Dave & Tim show and I'm so close I can actually smell the sweat on their foreheads. Dave has a little trouble remembering the words of So Damn Lucky. I really couldn't care less. They're here! By the way - I never really noticed this before but Dave is very attractive. *ducks*
When The World Ends
It's better accoustic. But not my favorite song in the world. There was an extended ending though which was neat (did I just say 'neat'?)
Stay Or Leave
I love this song. Shut up. The lyrics are brilliant. Again, shut up.
Lie In Our Graves
I thought this one was great. Loads of yelling from the crowd during this song though. God, that is annoying.
Old Dirt Hill
I like it! Turns into a really cool and groovy song with just two guitars. A must-have.
Satellite
Dave's fingers are not pleased. Tim smiles from ear to ear.
(That's all I got on this one - never really got into this song, guess I'll never will)
Ants Marching
The boobsalot song. Will always remind me of the big-chested girl at the Gorge (my very first show) who raised hell the entire show until they finally played her request. Silly how that will always stay etched in my memory. But hey, it's Ants Marching and Tim does a lot for this one. Overall, Tim does a lot for everything. I know I noticed this before, when listening to the recordings I have of D&T shows, but somehow it's more noticeable when actually being there.

Crash Into Me
Dave changed shirts during intermission for those of you keeping score.
Question: why do people spontaneously climax when he sings the Dixie Chicken part?
Little Thing
This is actually 'And Another Thing'. Very nice. Dave's voice is an instrument in itself.
Smooth Rider
Meh. Although once again: better accoustic. Just more rough around the edges and that's what this song needs. I know that 'rough' doesn't rhyme with 'smooth', but the melody is too bluesy for the overproduced version on the album.
Tim Solo
Holy fuck wow. Goosebumps flying all over the place.
Where Are You Going
Okay my memory is failing me. Was it this song that went into Everyday or was it #41? And when did they end in "This is your land"? Mommy's brain.
Gravedigger
It's my husband's favorite tune. I however need a full band on this one.
#41
Yeah - I died here. And cried. And loved every second of it. Especially the extension at the end. Do it to me again in Amsterdam, guys. Kill me some more.
Dancing Nancies
Well, we saw that one coming. I love Dancing Nancies and I loved how everyone was holding their breath when he started singing "could I have been lost somewhere in Paris". The screaming after that line, not so much.

To the male bitch yelling "Stay in Europe, Dave!!" in the middle of this one: STFUOIWFKY
Sister
Everyone is oh so quiet and so still. The air is loaded with... respect. Very moving song.
Still water (tease)
I love teases.
Don’t Drink the Water
ROCK. Suddenly it feels like there is an entire band upon the stage. Courtesy of Tim Reynolds.
Two Step
The girl up on the balcony who called this song all. night. long. (all night), finally got her way. Wonderful ending to an amazing experience.
I WAS AT A DAVE & TIM SHOW.
And I got *the* setlist to prove it.
Two more days until they're in my backyard.

lost somewhere in paris
literally, i'm afraid.
after a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong drive, i finally got to paris on tuesday. after a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong search, i even found the apartment sarah and her friend amanda had rented. everything worked out and i just got back (took me 10 hours. wonderful).
i'm really tired so i'll just give you the highlights:
- starbucks around the corner from the apartment
- sarah and amanda
- presents: cheesy poofs, stickers, dmb influences cd and english children's books (THANK YOU, SARAH!)
- standing in line at the venue in the rain. the cold, very cold rain
- having awesome seats
- dave and tim coming on stage
- being able to see their facial expressions
- americans being quiet and polite
- locals, portugese and italians being obnoxious and loud
- the screaming girl behind us whos face i was about to punch to pulp when sarah saved the day and told her off
- #41. oh dear god.
- #41
- #41!!!
- dave talking about american media ("oh, is the globe like getting warmer??")
- tim solo
- old dirt hill (surprisingly enough) and don't drink the water
- being the proud owner of the one and only setlist (THANK YOU SARAH, AND YOUR BOYFRIEND)
- the shebeen and its bartender, earl. the best kept secret in the latin quarter of paris. and in the dmb community ;)
- forgetting my toothbrush
gotta vote. gotta brush my teeth. gotta sleep. gotta get ready for this weekend.

i'm better
i just called sarah and i left her the most incoherent voice mail ever.
then i called whoops and the world is a bit more right again.
love you all.
off to bed for real now.
then i called whoops and the world is a bit more right again.
love you all.
off to bed for real now.
it's too much
okay - yannick is asleep, maarten is out working, i'm finally sitting down and i feel like shit.
everybody needs to fuck off. since day one i've been forced to defend my choice to work fulltime, while having an infant at home. yes, sometimes that sucks. sometimes i want to be at home rather than having to deal with piss-poor excuses for 'problems' at work. "but who's taking care of him then???" is a phrase i just cannot hear anymore. no-one is taking care of him. we just leave him in the morning with a bottle beside his bed. what do you think? i think i'm going to have a t-shirt printed that says: "my kid is at home with his dad. unless it's tuesday or wednesday, when he's at the best day-care ever. satisfied?"
yes people, i do miss him. i even miss him now, while he's asleep. i can't explain to you what it is to have a child and what it is to be a mother but if you are, you know what i mean when i say that i even miss him when he's asleep. the other day i had a supplier (a SUPPLIER to whom i am a CLIENT) on the phone and when he finally understood i really, really was at work five days a week, he bluntly told me i shouldn't have kids. no, really, that totally made my day.
and no, i'm not a raging feminist and i do not feel that all mothers should work. one of my best friends is a stay-at-home mom, another works three days a week (and some more in the evenings) and another does not have children. i love them all and i stand by them all. they all had to make a choice and i support them 300%. when will people start to realize that happy kids come from happy parents? that all children are different, as are all mothers? that the fact that i work my ass off so that my child is can be raised and taken care off by at least one of his parents five days a week is something i do out of love for him?
maybe one day i can work four days a week. it's not unthinkable, especially in the netherlands, where flexible hours on management level are a more accepted concept. maybe that will pan out. but i've come to the conclusion that even then, people will harass me with their narrow-minded, mid-fifties ideas. and they all need to sit on their finger and back the fuck off.
well, that's off my chest.
another thing that bothers me is that i really don't have enough time. i want to call sarah to discuss the upcoming dave & TIM!! shows. i want to call whoops to tell him how much i love him and thank him for the dmb calendar he sent me. i want to call meeks and gina (preferably at the same time) and find out how they are doing. i want to get rid off the ton of e-mail that i still need to answer. i want to call my uncle to set a date so he can visit his ... what is it called? great nephew? i want to call my stepmom so she can visit. i want to see my other stepmom because i see her as my true 'other mom'. i want to fly to america and kiss the ground. i want to have the energy to do all this, be a great mom, be a great employee, get another degree (it's addicting), be a great wife, start painting again, search the net for new music, dive into secondlife, find out what the hyves-hype is all about, develop a decent myspace profile, be a great friend, make my own clothes, finally learn how to do cartwheels.
i guess i'll go to bed instead.
