help...
a 4.5 month old puking his guts out is really no fun, especially when mommy and daddy are puking their guts out as well. bed, feed, bucket, toilet, bath, rinse, repeat. uuuuhhh.

this post is so overdue.
we forgot to take our camera to the christmas events, but i did get a chance to take pictures of yannick in his first christmas outfit that aunt gina sent him, so i'll be posting those this weekend. they're at home and i'm at work so i can't post them now. but let me just tell you of past events first.
christmas
as you may now by now, the dutch have to christmas days: december 25 and 26. first christmas day we spent at my parents', which was fun but extremely exhausting because yannick wouldn't sleep the entire time we were there. i guess it was just too interesting to have the entire family there.
second christmas day we went to maarten's mom and her husband and his sister, her husband and their two kids were there also and of course, yannick refused to sleep there as well. so while maarten's sister's kids were perfectly good and went to sleep when the grown-ups were having dinner, we had to keep yannick with us and take turns at consoling him, since he kept crying. needless to say, i was happy to be back at home and so was he. hurray for christmas with four month olds.
new year's
new year's we had yannick stay at my mom's, which some people thought was 'awful', because you know, how can you leave your kid at new year's? when he's asleep anyway? whatever - this time, he slept like an angel the entire night, even through the fireworks.
meanwhile, his mom and dad had a blast with friends and partied the old fashioned way. of course we missed yannick a little but were also happy to have the night off from parental responsibilities. it was just so much fun! the next day was a little less fun because both our heads felt like concrete. worth it though.
day care
the first week of january, maarten and i both took time off work. yannick went to day care for the first time on january 2 and 3. not the entire day, just a couple of hours to see how he would do. he absolutely loved it! the first day he used to check everything out, the second day he started to just 'talk' like crazy. the girls that work there told me he would just keep on talking to them, to the other babies, to parents and whomever else was passing by. he's been going to day care two full days this week and it's insane to see what this does to his development. it's like a different kid: he's talking non-stop, laughing out loud the entire time, arches his body in the most spectacular and exotic poses and is trying to pull himself up to sitting position. it's not that he wasn't talking or laughing before, it's more that these 'skills' are 'maturing'.
meanwhile, this has been my first full-time week at work since my maternity leave. the week for yannick is like this: monday, at home with grandma; tuesday and wednesday at day care; thursday and friday, at home with maarten. we're doing well. i did decide though that i would love if both maarten and me could work four days a week, so that we would both take care of yannick one day. but we'll have to see if that's a possibility in the future and if it would damage my career too much. because kids cost money, a LOT of money, and it wouldn't be wise to put two careers 'on hold' right now.
bla bla bla, i promise to tell about everything else later. too busy!
i just got home so it's picture time!!
it's my first christmas and my mom thinks i'm part elf, part reindeer. it's a good thing at least my shirts knows where it's at.

growing is exhausting.

i'm already so enlightened, i can float

can you believe this is me four months ago?
