my baby's going bald

really - mark green style. and yes, part of me fears that his hair won't grow back.

mika you crazy!

the mailman just rang. he brought an overseas package, from auntie marika. it contained an organic cotton set (hat, shirt and party pants) and this adorable item. yannick is asleep so i can't put it on yet, but i just couldn't wait to post it.

meeks, i just LOVE it!
maarten is trying to get rid of the old concrete floor in the backyard. since i've left all my safety gear at work, he's doing it eighties style (see the black miami vice glasses). very fashionable.

this lil' plant started with the name "mini" and is now the wet dream of some of our friends. as are his brothers.

since we're not going to smoke it, we're giving them away. no overseas shipments though, i'm afraid. but in the mean time, they smell wonderful and look really great.

it has been tested and i can honestly say yannick smiled during 'jaden' (alo). but that's maybe because his mom was singing along and swaying him in her arms.

one thing i need to mention: one of the interns that was present during the delivery, said dave & tim (in rotation on the stereo at that point) reminded her of john mayer.

dude. don't compare schmayer to d&t. thank you. that's like mac d and in 'n' out. so shut up.

she then proceeded to make three failed attempts to stick a needle with a salium (?) solution in my arm.

otherwise, she was pretty decent.

thoughts at 7.30 am

my son has just gone back to sleep after his breakfast and i know i should go back to sleep as well (since i'm chronically overly tired these days), but this is my only chance to sit outside with coffee and enjoy the silence. so i'm sitting here enjoying the silence. typing to please and/or annoy y'all.

yannick slept through three days of men walking in and out with terrace tiles and sand, men putting together a shed and a terrace and all other kind of incredible noise, but since yesterday, you can't lift your right arm without him waking up. i think he's having nightmares about forceps and labor storms (annemarie - what do you call labor storms in english?)

now that annemarie had her own horrific labor experience, i really feel like posting the picture of yannick when he was thirty seconds old. but i understand i'm probably the only one (okay, maarten too), who can stand to see the little guy covered in baby poop and jelly, with a huge bump on the back of his head and a horrible deep 'dent' across his eye and cheek. so i won't post it. but you're missing out. okay - not from your perspective but certainly from mine. because it's amazing to see how fast (within two weeks!) a baby recovers from that kind of abuse and mutilation. me? not so much. which reminds me; i still want to tell the tale of his birth, but i'm just so tired. tired, tired, tired.

today, i'm going to the gynaecologist. one month ago, i would have just grabbed my purse, got in the car and drove to the hospital. now, it's an operation. i have to put yannick in the car seat, take diapers, cleaning towels, butt cream, something to change his diapers on (like a plastic mat), extra clothes, sterilized water, frozen breast milk, milk powder, a bottle warmer and bottles. then drop him of at my parents and only then i can grab my purse, get in the car and drive to the hospital. and pray yannick won't drive my parents insane in the mean time.
but the wonder of it all is that it's all worth it and you even get used to it.

some sort of digest

  • most important: the wonderful miss gina marie sent yannick a self-knitted blanket, which coincidently is in one of the colors of his room and so incredibly soft, i secretely want the blanket for myself. we love miss gina marie!
  • i think i might continue to be writing about babies for a while, sorry. the whole yannick in our lives thing is pretty all-absorbing. i told you before that i was becoming "that mom".
  • although they're pretty exhausting, i love the night feedings! it's all quiet in the house and yannick is so content and just looks at me with his big blue/grey/green eyes and it's honestly the most beautiful thing i ever saw.
  • speaking of feeding, i think i might have to add some artificial feeding to his diet, since he wants to be fed every two hours. me not making enough milk i guess.
i tried to only feed him every three hours, but that results in him being awake all day. ALL DAY. and he wants to be held when he's awake. i was about to have a nervous breakdown. so that's no option either.
  • how boring is this post getting already?
  • two more months until i'm going back to work. it's going to be really weird. i realized that i won't ever have this much time with yannick again (unless i get fired, which is not really desirable), so i might as well enjoy it as much as i can.
  • yannick had a hearing test yesterday and his hearing is a-okay. which means the poor kid does hear me all day singing songs to him.
  • today we're going to try and do groceries together. what an adventure that will be!
  • hurray for coffee.

dear pregnancy,

it has been a roller coaster since you came here. i have loved you and hated you at the same time. i loved the little punches and kicks you gave me. i hated the swollen ankles and lack of mobility. i adored the signs of life and miracle of growth you brought us. i couldn't stand the way you slowly took over my body like it wasn't mine anymore.

and now you have gone. the other day i rubbed my belly and realized there was nothing there anymore to rub. the object of my affection is now a real life person, breathing it's own air. an awfully demanding but extremely rewarding addition to our lives. so i think it's time you give me back what you took from me. please provide me with the following asap:

my ability to sufficiently hold up my pee
my old tummy and not this weird empty skinned bag
size d breasts
my dutch hips and not the italian momma version
come to think of it: just give me back my ability to wear normal clothes
watching some tv without having to cry because someone hit their toe or something

thanks!!
