back on that horse, yo

i'm at work. since yesterday. it's majorly weird.

i got in the car yesterday morning, popped in a great cd and just sang at the top of my lungs the entire drive. i even didn't want the traffic jam to end, because it was so much fun. finally, freedom.

oh - you think i'm a bad parent for thinking that? try sitting at home for ten weeks, with a baby being completely dependent on you. no matter how much i love him (and i love him more than i ever could have imagined), i was very happy to get a break. even a working break.

anyway, back at work. fun, little out of my element. i'll get used to it again, sooner than i think.

here's a conversation i had with a co-worker during lunch.

him: "so where's yannick now?"
me: "at home with his dad."
him: "oh, he's having a daddy day"
me: "i guess - tomorrow too"
him: "so your husband took parental leave?"
me: "no, he started to work parttime"
him: "okay, are you taking parental leave?"
me: "no"
him: "but how many days will you be working?"
me: "i'll be working fulltime"
him: "but after that?"
me: "what do you mean after that?"
him: "after your husband starts working fulltime again"
me: "he won't"
him: "so you're putting your kid in daycare five days a week? isn't that a bit much?"
me: "no, my husband will be working parttime so he'll be in daycare two days a week"
him: *blank*
other co-worker: "don't you get it? he's working parttime and taking care of the baby, she's bringing home the bacon"
him: *blank*

welcome to the 21st century, sucker.
we had a good laugh though.

if you're bringing home the bacon, don't forget the maple syrup

That is AWESOME, Esther. You are a sugar-momma. I want to be that someday too. I wouldn't even mind. I like the idea, actually. But if the man wants to make money too, then that's wonderful too. This sounds awful, but the more the merrier. I'm not going to lie, I like hot pants, traveling and not living with my parents at the age of 27. This means more money is required. It's the root of all evil but it also means... airplane rides to ..... Amsterdam?

maarten works 28 hours a week and i work 40. i guess it's what works for us. and even if we had enough money not to work, i think i would still do it.
but more importantly, we do need to get your cute ass over here.
