... because my english is getting worse and worse. i'm noticing i'm not speaking it everyday anymore (since i don't work for an international company now).
it's annoying me to bits and it means i should just get my butt on a plane, right? right!

baby talk
so you're probably expecting a somewhat comprehensive, or at least interesting and intelligent post by now - but you guessed it: no such luck.
i'm just going to talk about my boy. cause i feel like it. so there.
yannick got a dvd for sinterklaas. he's completely into it. and that is the first Principle with a capital p that's out the window. i always swore my kids wouldn't be allowed to watch tv before the age of six. he's now 16 months old. good going, mom.

he's such a delight though. i think in many ways, he takes after me. he enjoys playing by himself (current favorites: duplo and blocks) and even 'reads' to himself. he'll just grab a book and talk out loud, sometimes getting a word or two right (and looking mighty proud doing so), but most is just gibberish - cute gibberish. he's talking like crazy anyway, sometimes even blurting out a sentence (current favorite: get out of the way). anyway, he enjoys the company of other children and playing with us just as much as being by himself - something we've got in common.
i sing english songs to him (all time favorite: because by the beatles), but i'm afraid to really teach him english. i don't want to be pushy. i firmly believe that you can give your kid too much attention and you shouldn't always be directing him but let him discover things on his own. is regularly exposing him to another language 'too much attention', especially since it's not my native language and he's in the process of learning his own native language as well? i don't know yet.
it's a hard enough job to set boundaries and rules these days anyway. he's quite obviously developed a consious and is testing us all the time. here's a pic of what happens when he doesn't get his way :)

last but not least, just one of my favorites of yannick with his great grandmother, grandmother, and cousins.

huh?!
greetings from frozen country.
i think for the first time in ten years, the lakes are frozen. it's nice to see that it is still possible.
tuesday i went to a play with my mom. the play lasted 9 hours. NINE HOURS. it was based on the odysseia (homer) and loads of fun, but my butt hurt immensely after the play was over.
although it was a good play starring very good actors, there was this one scene that was hilarious. the scene was set on the olympos and the gods litterally looked like celebrities. zeus was luciano pavarotti, hera was liz taylor, apollo was karl lagerfeld and aphrodite was paris hilton.
i'm not going anywhere with this post again...
yesterday i came home from having been away from home for two days and i had missed yannick so much. this is going to be fun when i go to the states next year.
oh boy, i think i need coffee and then i'm just going to e-mail people because really, i'm clueless and pointless.

dude, i'm old!!
today at 10.27 CET, i'm officially heading on 40!!
holy crap.
(it's my 35th birthday, in case you were wondering)
so what's new. nothing much - we've been sick for a month (yes, an entire month) and all the energy i had left has gone to yannick. the poor guy did not have it easy with two parents who'd rather sleep than play.
this would explain my absence online, and lack of response to e-mails. mea culpa!
i'll be back soon - hopefully!

most useless post ever
i went to a spa today.
i've never been this clean in my life. my eyebrows have never been this thin. my legs have never been smoother.
and now i'm home. and the ignition thingies on the stove keep sparking and the clicking sound is driving me insane. and maarten isn't home and i'm afraid something will catch fire. so i'm sitting here, although i would like to go to bed.
end of most useless post ever.
